Three brave athletes, 2 females and 1 male, Kerrie Wilson aka.. (KB queen), Stephanie Ricketts and my self cleared a space in the gym to comence the world GS challange. With bewilderd and amused onlookers Stephanie mounted our make shift platform to kick off the comp. Starting off with a bang she raced out to 24 snatches L then 25 R finishing with a total of 49

Kerrie mounted the platform punching out 42 snatches L then a stagering 49 R with a combined total of 91 and forearms Popye would be proud of.

next it was my turn using the 24, I completed 64 L and 72 right with a total of 136. I also completed the full 10 minutes for the first time

Having a well earned rest it was Stephanies turn to jerk the 16's. Needing 11 to make a the ranking 3 she pushed out a total of 12 giving her a total of 61 and an offical ranking of Ryzard 3. An outstanding effort for steph and she can be very proud of her results as we all are.

Kerries turn for more torture needing 39 for a ranking of CMS (her PB is only 26) with encouragement from the small crowd that now is looking on she battled with the bells and herself for an amazing 42 jerks surpassing her PB and obtaining the rank of CMS. she is one tough hombre with a mental toughness that most guys aspire to. brilliant effort and a well deserved CMS title. I think she is the only one in OZ to reach this ranking?

My turn with the 24's. the jerk not being my strong point, I only managed 19 jerks to a combined total for traditional GS of 87 reaching ranking 2 with the 24

stephanie and kerrie should be proud of thier achievment as I am very proud of them for working hard in training and the Comp.

Kerrie ....................42........91............132

Very nice work , guys! It is good to see others prepared to get up on the platform.

I also made CMS in the 75kg weight division

24kg bells (being a shaky old man)

83 jerks in 7.47
70+99 snatches in 9.55

It was tough but not enough to put me off this fine sport.
I'm back in training.
cheers

Standard GS rules.

Snatch - only one hand switch allowed .

Jerks - clean once, jerk repeatedly until you reach the point of near death , keep going until you die. No , there is no resting the bells on the ground. That is why GS is a niche sport.

Oh , and if you are under 40 years , you are expected to use the 32

As the Salvos sing "Come & join us ...."

As you get better , your rank improves! If you perform the required standard in a recognised comp you will get certified by the federation which organises the comp. To reach the highest rank you have to perform the required standard at a world championship.
