Got back home today after ~ 36hrs on planes & in airports...Sleep is a privilege not a right.
I will pen a detailed report in due course. Overall a very impressively run comp (actually two comps run concurrently) with at least 150 athletes from my estimation. The power juggling demo and comps were simply amazing. I videoed almost all of it.

I competed in the open championship of Europe with 32kg bells. I was underprepared for this weight (only trained for 3 weeks with 2 pood, copped a cold and pre-exhausted myself after the long flight by walking around Riga and Ventspils (as you do on a "working holiday"). After 5 mins of carefully paced jerks my legs turned to jelly. I hung on for 10 minutes but the last half was pretty ugly! Still , being flanked by two of the world's greatest lifters was both humiliating yet inspiring. I have much work to do!

After 29 (2x32)jerks my back was pretty stiff but managed to loosen up a bit for snatches - did 34/42 for 76 total. I came equal 3rd on score but missed the bronze on bw. Overall , given the circumstances I was satisfied.

My compatriot in age and bw , the great Fedor Fuglev knocked off 121 jerks and 175 snatches. Next day he put up 75 reps LCCJ (using no chalk) and later a cool 48 jerks in 3 minutes in the relay race. I did not see him warm up with anything other than a slow jog around the block on either day.

He started GS @ 40 years which might inspire some of you. Mind you, he had Oly lifts of 105/125 and PL 125/220/255 before that...

A Belorussian guy called Sergei did a world record 150 OAJ using 40kg in 10mins (swapping every minute).

60+ yo legend Eduard Trusevich did 216 snatches with 24kg as he prepares to beat his own PB.

About 10 women got over 200 snatches with 16kg.

The athletes were just the nicest people. The skill , strength and endurance levels are on another plane. You really have to be there in person to appreciate the highest expression of kb lifting. The top athletes make it look effortless.

I am weary and will sign off for now. But I am determined to reach greater heights over the coming years. And to develop Australian GS as this sport is now "official" i.e. as of this year recognised by the organisation of non-Olympic sports.

Those who harbour a (very achievable) dream of representing their country in KB sport should seriously think about making a long term committment. And get behind Girevoy Sport Australia.

That's all for now!

cheers

All in good time Rick. I don't have broadband here so it will have to wait. Also , editing takes time. :) I'm enjoying doing very little for a few days. Life has been hectic and tiring of late.
