Listen up , slackers! This country needs YOU to work up a sweat in the name of national pride!

December 7th the Cross World Long Cycle Challenge is on!

Mostly Europeans (those pesky Finns in particular , Finnish United Kettlebell Association guys (the FUKAs...)) have challenged our great nation to a weightball contest.

Now this is pretty user friendly. It is not a GS comp , but essentially you commit to lifting as many Kg overhead as you can in 10 minutes using the long cycle clean & jerk( or press (but that is hard for 10 mins)). Clean the bell(s) jerk (or press) then back to hang and repeat cycle.

One or two arms , swap arms or rest with bell on floor if you wish ( ) , and use a bell of challenging weight. That means women - MINIMUM 12kg , blokes 16kg , MORE LIKE 24-32kg IF YOU GO THE ONE ARM SWAP +/- PUT DOWN WAY.

The total Kg lifted will be divided by the number of athletes.

You have the chance to represent your country and boast to your friends. All that is required is a committment to a few weeks of regular training.

Use any method to keep the conditioning up , but 3 weeks before the comp work heavily with KBs.

Post results here. If you can get a bunch of people together all the better. If you are outback, get a mate to count reps/time and if you cheat , you are only cheating yourself!

This is on the same weekend as the Irongarm KB challenge which is 20 minutes - 10mins snatches followed immediately by 10mins Long cycle. Personally I will do the 20 minute event and count the second stage for Team Australia. But I have several irons in the fire.

Are you with us , or just on the couch?

Antti our friend from Finland says he just wants a good hard honest effort. I think we can offer him that - and a bit more.

10 minutes effort that might even change your life :D You will be uberfit & also look dead sexy in a cossie for summer.

Personal trainers - marshall your troops NOW! Give them a serious goal.

cheers , now snap to it & remember, no "training to failure" mentality.
Paul

PS now is the time to get that prograde comp style kettlebell. Your performance will be increased , guaranteed.

Paul,

Geez mate i don't know,sounds like a lot of hard work,maybe i'll do it?Then again maybe not,possibly you may get me, i'm stuck :? What to do :?: :?: :?:

Alright i'm in and will be using the 32kg,though mine is generation 1 so Rick if you want to sponsor me a Pro-Grade 32 you have my address :D . At this stage i'll probably do the IGX event in the am and the Cross World in the pm,just think i'll score better for the "TEAM' that way.

Any one else?? Does BW factor into the results?

Mick

Ps; i'll be waiting for Mr. DHL Rick to come to the door 8)

Does this mean there are only 3 brave KB lifter in your great nation? This is a Challenge, fight for your country and most of all, fight for yourself. Of course, if you don't dare, I can understand....

Hi All

Here in sunny Albury we have 6 definates and maybe 8 competing. I am thinking about having a crack at the 1ALCCJ with 32kg alas it will not be with the prograde! a case of suck it up buttercup. We all look forward to it. Yes guys you need to lift heavier than 16, the girls down here can throw that weight around like a ping-pong ball!

Cheers

Jamie the rules don't say you can't change KBs during the set. It might be hard to keep track of things without a ref. But the aim is to lift as much as possible.

Nathan in Sydney has some kids who may compete. They lift 4kg ; nothing wrong with that (IF YOU ARE A KID :D )

The more the merrier ; so what if our average is pulled down a bit. The men will just have to work a bit harder!

A word of advice - in training make sure lockouts are solid - lock knees as well. Otherwise form gets sloppy and in an official comp you will be pinged!

I'm in, STILL have tonsilitis (I don't know why they don't just take the bloody things out) and don't know when I will start training again but I'll give it my best shot.

Paul in Hobart

We will all give it our best shot. It is impossible for everyone to give of their best all the time or indeed always peak successfully. But the real goal is to make progress with understanding of training methods and how you can manage your own potential.

As far as your tonsils go, we used to say "you only heal with cold steel"

Oh! I've just realised I've done the comp on the wrong day. Just pretend this is Sunday-D'oh!!!!!

Long Cycle Clean & Jerk 16kg x 2 (32kg): 102 reps / 3264kg - 10 minutes. (ridiculous pb - very happy)

breakdown: 9, 10,11,10,10, 7 rest,12,9,10,14= 102.

Body weight: 91.5kg

I have to thank Paul and my wife for this result, I never thought that I could get 100+. I had been doing long C&J sets and tabata sets. Paul suggested I isolate the movements and do double cleans, and OA jerks, all with an emphasis on resting in rack - long sets of course! And my wife because she counted for me, and gave me great feedback. A week ago we did a test run and I lifted 93. I had shown her Youtube vids of the top lifters, from that she observed that I was looser in my movements and I didn't lean back in the rack as much. From her observations I worked on my technique, and wrote up a minute by minute rep schedule (to lift 94reps.) Which I managed to do + about 1 extra rep per minute. I just focussed on getting the reps each minute. It worked well.

I guess it's time to move on to the 24kg's.

GO AUSSIES!!!

Tom.

Great numbers!!!
If you are able to have a go at the double 20's first before the 24's, they really help break up the massive jump from 16 to 24. Good luck all for the comp tomorrow

Team fkin Marrickville;

10 minutes LCCJ 32KB - left arm only (due to the tendonitis in the R elbow) 10,10,10,10,10,8,8,8,9,11 = 94 reps = 3008kg total
...was aiming for 100 but didn't quite get there. Felt great, the single weight is like a peanut after all the work with doubles - biggest limiting factor was my bicep and forearm fatigue...rested 1 minute and did 100 swings and cleans with the right hand (doesn't aggravate the elbow only the OH stuff does) sets of 20 alternating for another 5 minutes.

I love youse all - yes winnie I do feel better despite a slight sense of Scheissenbedauern

Team Tassy part 2 , kicked off the rank late

Arms were tired after yesterday's comp with 32 so changed plans and wimped out...but got a better result I think

2x16kg 14rpmx8mins then 2x24kg 10,12

= total 4640kg , as I recall it was about total kg lifted...

Day off tomorrow :(

Great to see all the names ; hope you join up GSAA next year , we will run similar events.

Team Adelaide (no one else has claimed this name, so we'll take it):

Chis Frech: 1ALCCJ 10 min. 16kg 104 reps @ 80kg bodyweight; total = 1664kg
Stoyan Shopov: 1ALCCJ 10 min. 32kg 106 reps @ 74kg bodyweight; total = 3392kg

Chris did the challenge 1h after touching a KB for a first time ever. Pretty gutsy (hope you won't be cursing me at work tomorrow).

When do we find out how the Finns went?

I will add our results to the overall spreadsheet today (I'm a bit busy right now).

Albi - I need your real name - pm me if you dont want it on the forum, and you want to be counted.

Also anyone who hasnt added their b.w. feel free to do so. Ladies are excepted given the relaxedness of this challenge :D

Rick , we missed you mate! Hope the bbq or whatever you did instead was even more fun - hard to imagine how , though

The baby is very new ; also Nathan had worked a long shift and only had 3 hours sleep before competing. Kudos!

And Rick - we may have to talk further about an organised venue; thanks for the offer. Sydney & Melbourne will probably be the centres of primary growth and it makes sense to concentrate our efforts there for the forseeable.

I think we can only count the best effort. Jeff is a fit young man for sure!

btw at last count we had 40 competitors who lifted a total of 87. 236 tonnes :D - 27 men lifted an average of 2607kg , 10 ladies averaged 1496kg and 3 juniors averaged 624kg.

As soon as I get the link to the final spreadsheet I will post it here.

Paul,
that should be read as 67L for 10 mins, 74R for 10 mins. 5 min rest between hands.

I won't be setting an world records just yet

Paul in Hobart

The thing is Mick that 14rpm is doable but very tough. My point was (& it's a little subtle I admit) that in GS circles , 14rpm is considered the max possible allowing for 1 legal rep (stable lockout) in LCCJ.

I will post a vid of my rapidfire 14rpm 2x16 set... basically I chose a weight where I wouldn't have to rest. 2x20 would've slowed my rate but my 20s are an older design and not very nice on the forearms for 10 minutes. The 2x24 at the end enabled a boost in workrate beyond what I could achieve with 2x16. But it was very much a home straight effort!

Valery's 3 mins using 2x24 13-14rpm is pretty damn impressive - 640 kg/min. And the WR for LCCJ 2x32kg equates to 704kg/min for 10 minutes!
