A virtual comp for anyone in Australia ; you can compete at home or at the gym , with friends/rellies counting reps; dates from March 21-29th - you choose the day.
If you win your division there are no prizes , sorry! ... also , if you are able, please video your set(s).
Please make the effort , and also try to adhere to good form. There is not much point in comparing a sloppy set with someone of equivalent age/bw/experience...you will not benefit unless you put good reps ahead of your ego! Choose a weight which is challenging , yet not soul destroying!
Of course you can choose multiple events. Give yourself a rest, but try to do them all the same day (simulated competition conditions). This is girevoy sport , it is hard & not for wimps!
"The Cross World Girevoy Sport event is closing in on us!
Here's the Official info.
The event is organised by the Girevoy Sport Global Network.
First, here's a spreadsheet with all the results data, and the contact persons for live events:

Here's the available lifts and general rules:
Check out the lifts available! You won't believe your eyes!
Classic GS lifts:
2 KB jerk
2 KB long cycle (LC)
1 KB jerk
1 KB LC
snatch
For these, the standard GS rules apply:
- 10 minutes time limit
- one hand switch in one armed lifts
- when the bell is set down, the lift is over
Special lifts:
Overhead anyhow (1 KB)
Overhead anyhow mini (1 KB)
These 2 lifts have the following exceptions to the standard GS rules:
Overhead anyhow is lifting the bell overhead from the rack position. 10 minutes, multiple hand switches, put the bell down if desired. Clean before a new lift always. You can use bent press, push press, military press, jerk or something else. The rule is just to get a good lockout. This is for newcomers especially.
Overhead anyhow mini is the same as above but 5 minutes. Come on, you can do this even if you train with Kettlenetics bells!
A lifter can choose any combination of these lifts, and bell weight can be different in each lift. The possible bell weights are dependent on the equipment available, but generally here are the common alternatives:
8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 32, 40, 48
If you lift virtually, please send all the results to <!-- e -->markosuomi@gmail.com<!-- e --> before the 30th or March!

I'll have a crack!!! 16kg x 2 LCCJ
I haven't got a video yet, but maybe I know someone who does. Although I think the lockouts are OK (according to my coach - wife! Youtube is a great thing) I tend to take a mini rest at the lockout to spread the load. So I feel confident my method is legal. But who knows. I think video would be really useful as a training tool, and to see whether what I think and how I look are similar. Usually it's a surprise to see yourself - destroys the fantasy!

Ange is going to compete in teh whole lot, traditional and long cycle with the 12.
Paul will probably do snatch with the 24
Also on the books is our first official GS club! im working on starting one this week at the local PCYC, at the moment meets will be once a week, with organised comps down the track. So hopefully next week we will have our own " Albury PCYC GS Club"

Good work Matt. My missus will be spending 9 months in Albury working soon. Which means I will be spending a fair bit of time down there as well. I will be looking for somewhere to train GS. Ill look you up when we get down there. Jason

Hey Paul Im still deciding on events but with the 1 hand anyhow do you have to clean before each over head lift or can you for example, clean it once then jerk it numerous times ??

Mate it says clean the bell before a new lift always. That is to prevent people resting the bell on their shoulders (the rack can be hard for some) and to introduce the grip element of GS to comp newbies .
So , it's long cycle clean and OH anyhow. Same as what I've organised in the Tassy comp in April.
The cross world events are designed to get people into competitive lifting but encouraging at least some GS rules. Without rules it becomes hard to compare athletes. Unless you get them to do the beep test...

Comp result:
10 mins, Long cycle C&J, 16kg x 2: 112 reps (another PB!!)
Body weight: 87kg
This was a struggle, finding some sort of balance between pumping out the reps and just not blowing up is hard at this pace. I probably had about 40sec - 1min rest all up (rack / hang) which is very little. I work at about 12 rpm pace -rest + sprint at the end. Very little room for active rest. But I got a PB which is what it's all about. My coach/counter/wife dis-allowed 1 rep at the very end which was ugly- I agreed- I was trying to squeeze one more rep in and cut corners. I think it's a good sign that she picked that up.
Weight loss, squats, step-ups, dead lifts baring fruit.
Tom
ps. good luck every one who's having a go!!!

Nice Tom! You have made very good progress indeed and soon it will be time to step up to the heavier bells!
I will probbaly do the 40kg OH anyhow thing tomorrow and the X-world proper next week.
Today , though I traded in my old anvil for a bigger one
124kg , pics on the website http://sites.google.com/site/ferrolithicpark/blacksmithing/the-smithy/that-s-a-vulcan-fine-anvil
Won't be lifting this one overhead - or by the horn. I'll miss the other one in that regard.
What can you do with that mate other than DL?

What can you do with that mate other than DL?
Hammer hot iron on it , ya dill!
Seriously , anyone who visits and can do any lift other than a deadlift gets a six pack of Guinness from me. And even if you get a single DL I'll chuck in a free one. This is not a barbell and it requires a twisted round back movement to get it off the ground. Caveat emptor.
I stripped the paint off today and also (finally) off the handle of the AKB 40kg
Did 84 x OALCCJ/10mins in front of the anvil, to celebrate! Good times ahead!

I did 1ALCC&J 20kg 29L/31R 10:00mins, one hand change. Was feeling crap today, think I'm getting a cold so didn't push it, but pretty happy that I held onto the 20kg for 10 mins.

Hi, I managed 112 jerks with the 32kg in 10min. in the Overhead Anyhow category. I was switching hands every 12 reps for the first 6min. then when my quads started going jelly I slowed down to 10 reps/min. I don't think I've fully recovered from the Cradle Mountain Run yet.
BTW, checkout the pictures from my bachelor's party last Sat: http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/1725433/ We did a squatting relay with an Olympic bar: 2389 squats in 1h between 9 people.
Good luck to everyone else who is about to do the challenge.

Good one Stoyan! Leading the way , in the South of A!
I did 51 2x28kg LCCJ this afternoon. A pleasant way to kill 10 minutes on a balmy Tassy day

I got out 84 reps with the 40kg in 10 mins. I put the bell down a couple of times so It would technically be in the one hands anyhow category.
I had planned to do the snatch and LCCJ but got sent away for work yesterday. I will still do them when I get home. Congrats to all who have had a crack... pretty addictive stuff !! :-)

Hi I did the snatch (for the first time) with the 16 got a total of 132 reps out, 67 on the left and 65 on the right in 10 minutes
Angela Mcoy used the 12kg and:
LCCJ total of 112, 55 on the left and 57 on the right in 10 minutes
Snatch total 100, 43 on the left and 57 on the right in 10 minutes
G'Day,
My wife and I gave it a go, and the results are as follows:
My wife - LCCJ 12kg - 40R/42L = total 82reps - 10 minutes
Me - 2 x 16kg Jerks - 50reps - 5min32sec
- 16kg snatches - 52L/32R = total 84reps - 5min39sec
This is a PB for me.
Stuart.

To join Stoyan in Team South Australia today I did 16 kg bell snatches followed by 1 arm jerks. After ten and a bit minutes of snatches I had 111 reps, a pb and first time Id gone the whole ten. The bit minutes refers to my IKEA clock stopping at four minutes, at which time I had conveniently changed hands (a bit dissapointed to only last four minutes on the left hand, 47 reps). I got the clock going again with a few gentle taps whilst I held the bell locked out overhead in my right hand. Not sure how long this took, probably only ten seconds, so maybe take off three reps for a total of 108. No drama with the jerks 5 minutes each hand left 35 reps right 39 for a total of 74 reps in ten minutes, another pb. Well done to everyone who gave it a go.
