Paul Tucker, renowned Girevik and Australia's only international representation in Girevoy sport, is going to run a workshop at Australian Kettlebells (13 Newton St Richmond, Melbourne) on Saturday 13th June.

The workshop will run from 1.30-around 5.30pm (then dinner after for those who want to come along).

The workshop will be $150 per person.

Tucker can only be pried out of beautiful, green Tasmania once in a blue moon so this is an opportunity not to be missed. He is THE expert in Girevoy sport in Australia and his own results are a testament to his training methods. If you haven't already seen it, check out his training log because his strength and fitness are truly impressive. Paul is also a physician, and has rehabilitated his own injuries through Girevoy sport (GS) training, so has a unique perspective on the sport and how this style of training can improve general athleticism and wellbeing.

Training Girevoy sport style has many applications, not just for competing in Girevoy sport. This training style is an excellent complement to most sports and is an excellent way to keep fit off-season. In fact, the Girevoy sport training syle is for anyone who wants to be fit, lean, healthy and strong without compromising joint health.

Amongst other things, Paul will cover:
* technique for jerk, snatch and clean and jerk
* other exercises for balanced strength and conditioning
* joint mobility and how to stay supple
* breathing techniques to help you last longer and get more reps out
* how to program your GS training for optimal results, in GS or any other sport
* how to identify and improve your weak spots
* how to train smart and avoid injury

If you want to know more about the workshop, or would like to reserve a place, call me on 1300 85 40 50 or email me at info@kettlebells.com.au

Looking forward to finally meeting you Peter! Knowing your background & experience , I'm sure you will have a number of KB insights to add! You'd better prepare a stunt or two ... for when I lose my voice. Cheers , Paul

My second favourite team - red & black and a dash of white. They've got some big boys - our ants had them working hard at times. Good match.

i'm sure you will be fine :)

but i could come up with the following:

a) how GS helps with Salsa Body Isolation moves
b) how GS helps with Karate style agility moves
c) how GS helps with Boardgaming - its true...

Me too, looking forward to meeting you as well Paul!

Melbourne is actually my home town even though i was raised in Canberra and therefore been a Carlton fan since I was 4!

Mick,

there's actually been a fair bit of interest across Australia for Tucker's workshop so if we can convince him to leave Tassy again at some stage this year we might be able to come to you - and by that time hopefully you'd be mobile again! Will keep you posted.

Just want to publicly thank Rick , Emily, Chris & James for their hospitality and organisational skills in making this weekend's workshops happen. It is a great privilege to be able to pass on "secret" knowledge in person , make friends with people who were previously acquaintances , and create a energising atmosphere of group learning ! We had attendees from as far away as Adelaide , Darwin and Canberra ; the GS virus seems to be moving faster than swine flu ;)

The overall standard of movement/lifting and rate of learning was excellent, I was most impressed (& heartened).

The highlight was Emily popping the 32kg bell overhead for multiple reps , without complaint. Not too bad at all ; certainly the leading light for females in this country. Another lady got the 20kg OH for the first time , after 4 hours of pre-exhaustion too. Great success!

btw AKBs new shopfront "Ironedge" is very nicely set up for demonstrations , classes & for Emily's nefarious purposes - competitions .

The new equipment looks good. Sledgehammers , macebell , old school DBs and barbells , not to mention Rick's enormous meccano project multifunction station - all worth checking out for those seeking the ironedge...

Best wishes everyone and thanks for having me over!
Keep playing hard!
cheers , Paul

Thanks Paul, it was great to catch up again over beers and bells.
The feedback from attendees was nothing but positive. It appears that GS is gaining some momentum, esp when we have great instructors like yourself openly sharing your knowledge and time.

The biggest appeal for me with GS, is the lack of injuries, the fact that so many components of fitness are covered thoroughly and the longevity of competing athletes. I can't think of another sport which comes close to delivery all of the above.

For those keen to learn more and attend regular training sessions, our new facility in Richmond (Iron Edge) will be offering such classes.

Thanks Jason , Pete and Rick! For those who missed out , the sessions included a bodyweight warmup complex emphasising drills critical to mastering the flexibility/recovery requirements of GS , plus a KB warmup emphasising hand to hand drills , to provide an agility/coordination focus (and some fun!) - and then the run through of swing , rack , clean , press and jerk drills - stressing the importance (and complexity) of breathing patterns.
At the end of the day , GS methodology (which incorporates the 6 "S"s of strength , speed, suppleness (flexibility) , stamina , skill (many aspects) and mental grit (spirit) translates very well into most sports or physical endeavours.
As adults age , in general you can start to delete "S"s from the list. Older people - take note!
Many ways to run a workshop , never enough time to cover everything! But I had great fun and it was well worth running the gauntlet of swine flu at Melbourne airport !
