I'm hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction for medical investigation and rehab / cross training kettlebell & band exercises.

A friend of mine who does 24 hour solo mountain racing at a national level (yes, that's 24 hours non-stop on bike!) has gotten chronic wrist pain in the last few months for no apparent reason, which has destroyed his ability to race. The pain is predominantly in the left wrist, but after a long period of cycling the right wrist starts to hurt as well.

So far he's seen 2 Osteopaths (one of which is a cycling specialist), a sports doctor and had an MRI - but nothing has turned up an answer as to what is causing the wrist pain and he's running out of money to pay for continuing medical investigations. The feedback from the professionals has been that the MRI is all clear and one Osteopath said his traps were the tightest he has ever seen on anymore. He's broken his left collar bone twice (the last time was 7 years ago), but it has never bothered him previously.

My guess is that the wrist pain is stemming from a combination of office work (he's a programmer) and long hours in a cycling position combined with no core or back strength training to compensate. And a further guess to fix the issue would be to add deadlifts, squats, kettlebell swings & presses, chinups, ab stuff and rowing of some sort into his training.

Is this on the right track? Is there a professional in Melbourne that you could recommend that would know what is causing this?

Well there are a heap of clues you threw in there.
Clear MRI
Tightest trapz
Computer Programmer(static posture)
Pain increases due to time on bike (static posture)

But, the exercises you mention will not be appropriate to treat these problems just yet.
Let us consider you to be on the right track, that it is a combination of over use upper trapz and static protracted shoulder posture. The solution will be specific rhomboid an mid/low trapz training. Those exercises you mention are too high a level for a weak scapula stabilization group.

Seeing I'm in Melbourne it would only take 1 or 2 assessment/treatments to see if we are on the right track. I've treated similar issues in bike riders and rock climbers over the years.

Whenever i generate power when performing a backhand, the left part righthanded of my wrist, forgot the name of the bone, makes a cracking sound, and afterwards, the pain starts showing up, even when i smash. Anybody know what the problem is? Or how i can correct it?
