What does your physio suggest? What caused the tear in the first place , and are you going back to training/sports with similar stressors? What strength work have you been doing thus far? (presuming some)

If it were mine , knowing that 3-4 months is the usual healing time, I would avoid using a 16kg for any OH work and instead start with an 8kg...and progress cautiously. I think a KB used judiciously would be fine.

You would do well to keep a rehab/training log here and note the progress as the weeks pass.

Cheers Paul. my Physio had no idea what kettlebells were and told me to stay away from them so pretty useless info from him, apart from him saying i can weight train but high rep low weights for a month or two. I tore the ligament during a impact training routine at rugby. I am a prop forward and weigh 110kgs, before injury i was training quiet heavily with kettlebells doing alot of power/strength stuff with a 32fg bell. my intensions are to do correct rehab and strength training to get myself back to the same if not hopefully stronger state to return to rugby next year

Has anyone had an injury the same or similar? just trying to get an idea from people how long recovery process has taken and when the started using kettlebells again.

Hi Ben,

I thought you'd find this interesting: www.shoulderdoc.co.uk it has an article on 'Rugby shoulder' I think SLAP tears are the most common, and outlines healing progress etc. I think it stated that 4 months was a average time for recovery.

I might have a similar prob, but we're hoping for a mirco fracture in the clavicle, or arthritis, or worst case is SLAP lesions from a undiagnosed trauma (footy, judo, surfing, etc.) I'll know more in a few weeks.
