Andrew,

I'm almost 9 weeks post op from a ATR repair and I'm just wondering about your thoughts on re-hab and the length of time it'll take me to get back swinging the bells. I'm still a week and a half away from getting out of "the boot"(well that's the plan) and so as yet haven't been able to start physio. That being said i have done a few easy sessions in the pool under the guidance of a great mate who treats people via hydro therapy and plan to increase these as time goes by. I'm still training albeit doing everything seated, hanging or laying. Just hoping to hear some other opinions on time frames and success of healing etc.... I've a big trip planned come mid Oct which involves me training and i want to pull out all stops so that i can make it and get back home safely.

Quick outline for you Mick.
Expect scar to be thick and tendon shortened due to immobility from boot/cast, massage of the tendon can be helpful.
Mobilization of Ankle, subtalar and midtarsal joints will likely be required by the physio, they will give you home mobilization exercises.
Strengthening begins when out of the cast simply in weightbearing and walking to begin with.
Let me know when the cast is off, about a week from now? and we can plan some work.

Andrew,
Cast was off a fortnight ago and I've been hobbling around in a boot for the last two weeks(sometimes with but mostly without the assistance of crutches). I'm back at the Doc's next Fri to see if i can lose the boot completely and get into more intensive re-hab. Presently I massage the area every day and I'm doing some gentle walking in the pool every second/third day.
Thanks for taking the time to offer your professional opinion.

Andrew,

Got out of the boot this morning. Surgery was on 30th April and everyone says that it is healing really well. My ankle does feel tight but I'm assuming that that is adjusting to life without being hampered by that cam boot.

I look forward to any and all advice you can give me to get back to normal ASAP

I stretch the hell out my achilles tendon on a daily basis, but it seems like every morning I have this horrible tightness and it always seems to "re-tear" in the first few minutes of walking around.

Thoughts?
