Hi all,

we've organised a date for the next GS comp - it will be Saturday 8th August. This comp will be the first official GS comp for GSAA members. If you would like to participate, but are not yet a GSAA member, you can download the form and follow the steps to become a fully fledged member here:http://sites.google.com/site/girevoysportaustralia/Home/membership-application-form

We will be hosting a competition here at Australian Kettlebells, in the new IRON EDGE gym at 13 Newton St Richmond, Vic. Fee for entry here will be $15.

I know there are a few other GS clubs around and other people who would like to host a comp so please advertise your location on this thread and I'll also add it to any other advertising, blog posts etc I do for the comp.

If you have any questions you can email me at emily@kettlebells.com.au or call 1300 85 40 50. Keep an eye out on here for updates on details. Happy training!

I'm no ready to compete in GS, but would like to watch. Is the $15 for entry a fee to enter the competition or to enter the building?

Hooray! The date is a bugger as I wont be able to attend/compete. Same day as my sisters wedding in Cairns!!!!!!, hopefully the next one will not be too far after this one.

The comp date is "soon" but we feel the need to kick off the new fully financial GSAA with some winter fun. Really , this is a chance for anyone to dip their toes in the water of GS competition. We would not expect any world beating performances , just some fit and willing individuals who are prepared to front up and have a go. It is confronting , but overcoming fear and adversity are what make ordinary people great. Mostly , this winter competition is about having a go and learning heaps - and being inspired to greater achievements.

The only way to get better at competitions - is to compete regularly! Many people will say "I'll compete when I have reached X number of reps" or whatever - but that is like a bodybuilder not hitting the stage until he has 18" arms or whatever. I think it is better to turn up and have some fun , like you would at little athletics or junior judo etc.

If you are "frightened" to compete at such short notice , please make the effort to at least attend and see how it's run. You will of course get to witness Emily's prowess , an ability which can shame many men. And get to meet some great people and hit the recovery pasta and ale afterwards :D

This comp will lead us into spring where we expect more venues and greater attendance. We would envisage another comp in November and maybe an interim challenge.

Please note that you must be a financial member of GSAA to compete - but please do not try to join on the day as Emily & co will have their hands full. Membership confers rights and responsibilities and GSAA provides a comprehensive unsurance policy for thos holding and competing in competitions.

There is no firm Sydney venue at this point in time so if anyone can organise a gym (or provide a suitable area) that would be great. Soon however we will have a GS oriented gym available in that city.

There will be a Sydney venue, don't sweat it. Even if "our" space isn't finished we'll sort something out :-)

Matt,

sorry about the date, it was all done in a bit of a rush to just get something organised and get the GS ball rolling. There is absolutely no reason why you guys can't host your meet the following weekend (well, none that I can see - anything Paul? Would it make a difference for insurance purposes or anything?). Same goes for anyone else who would like to host a meet but can't make it that weekend. I think having as many people participating as possible is most important at this stage.

The next effort will be much better coordinated and it's probably something we can have a chat about at the workshop on the weekend.

Again, sorry for the lack of consultation.

Turin,

no reason why you can't come and watch for free, but as there is a novice event and you can pick a suitable weight and change hands as many times as you like I think you should compete instead of just watching! If you need some instruction on GS technique, come along to the first GS class on the 25th July (Saturday) at 9am.

Happy training!

No problem having the comp spread over 2 weeks. By all means Mat & others - 15th-16th August would be fine.

Hi guys, I can't compete in this comp. My shoulder won't be healed in time. I'll still be in rest mode, and therefore a long way from a 10 min effort. I hope you have a good day (I might come and have a look, if I get a chance!)

All the best Tom.

ps, Well done Mat on getting your club up and running!!

Simon

I'm very keen, but have family in town from WA on that Saturday.

Emily - what time do will you open the doors? Maybe I can sneak in early to do 10 mins of snatches before catching up with the family.

Emily

Hi Simon,

I think we'll start at about 1pm, but we will have classes and things running from 8am I think so perhaps you can come in early and I can count your reps if you like. We'll try to figure something out.

Simon

Thanks Emily - much appreciated. I might come in early when it suits. Look forward to it!!

Emily
21-07-2009, 10:20 AM
What time would suit you, Simon?

Tom - sorry, just read your post. Sucks about the shoulder. Could you do a set with a couple of light weights?

Simon
21-07-2009, 10:23 AM
Early is best. I can get there at 8am and get started when it suits you. I wouldn't want to derail the class too much!

No Emily I can't even do light weights.

I have to completely rest my left arm, in particular I'm not allowed to lift it above my head. My specialist thinks that I fractured my clavicle (months ago!), and it hasn't healed.

The only option would be right arm only. Although, this is my dominant arm already, so I'm not that keen on putting lots of work into it. I've worked quite hard to get them more balanced. I think the best option is just to rest and get my shoulder right, and then I'll be good for all the other comps etc. I've banned myself from the KB's because if I start swinging them around I'll end up having a go with the injured arm and making it worse!
