There were only 3 of us willing to take this on today, couple of people had to pull out due to injury and some will give it a shot next week.

However, we had a few interested spectators and we had a heap of fun. All got PBs so very happy.

Simon Hikaka
Can't find his sheet, put it somewhere in all the excitement so will have to get back to him to find out weight or located the sheet - it's around here somewhere.

LCC&J 2 x 16kg KB total 88 reps 10mins
about 20 mins rest
Snatch 20kg 79L/83R 5min each arm total 162 in 10mins

Kath Field
25 years
82kg
1 Arm Jerks 12kg 78L/95R think Kath swapped at 4 mins. Total 173 in 10mins
about 20 mins rest
Snatch 8kg 74L/87R 5 mins each side total 161 in 10mins.

Emily Friedel
28 years
63kg
Snatch 16kg 68L/104R swapped on 4 mins total 172 in 10 mins.

Great morning and we're all exceptionally happy with our performance. Really was heaps of fun and Simon and Kath are certainly rising stars in the GS world.

Excellent work , strong comrades!
Emily you are not far off world class. Just need that extra 2 mins!

My co-starter was struck down with swineflu so I had to go it alone. Will send vid to Emily for judging. I counted 74 with 2x24 in the LCCJ. The atmosphere was one of...relief I spose.

Haha I did the whole 10 mins, but had to do 6 on the right because my left crapped out early. Big grip endurance difference between hands. But lungs felt fine, I could've kept going! Was too scared to really crank it up because I didn't want to tear my hands up.

Oh and Kath did 4/6 for her jerks, so also did the whole 10mins.

Nice work yourself! You're such a good role model for all these up and comers.

A Ietto @ 79kg, Age 41, M
Snatch 16kg = 111 reps (47L/64R), just falling short of 10 mins

D Fernandez @ 104kg, Age 36, M
Snatch 16kg = 111 reps (no split available), completed 10 mins

J Douse @ 72kg, Age 39, M
Snatch 16kg = 174 (85R/89L), completed 10 mins
CV endurance felt like couldve gone all day, grip tended to disagree. Disappointed.

We also had two guys that just had a go on the day. So unofficially S Green 153 snatches 16kg and T Clarke (who lifted a KB for the first time today) 156 snatches 16kg

I also want to congratulate everyone around Australia who had a crack at the comp today.

We are all doing something that most are afraid to try. This is a tough sport for mentally tough individuals and it takes courage to participate, to knowingly put yourself in a position of extreme discomfort and to get the most out of yourself. It may sound like a bit of namby pamby BS but everyone that competed today should have walked away with their head held high.

"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something, and that this thing, at whatever cost, must be attained.” Marie Curie

We are all very fortunate to be in a position where we are involved in the sport whilst its in its infancy in this country. We have a fantastic opportunity to be directly involved in the growth of Girevoy Sport in Australia

Awesome work!

And Jamie, considering you didn't do any tapering at all and by the looks of it totally smashed yourself yesterday, you did pretty bloody well.

Congratulations to those that competed and PBed.
I meant to lend my support to the Melbourne competitors as a spectator but alas I arrived too late!

Albury GS Club

We had a great comp, primed on coffee.

Mat Shields, 32yo, 98kg
LCCJ x2 16's, 10 minutes, 100 reps

Paul Goonan, 33yo, 96kg
1ALCCJ for 10 minutes on the 20, 156 reps, non-trad, multiple hand changes.

The numbers were lower than I thought for competitors......some poor last minute excuses. All of us made personal bests by far. Onward to the 24's, great numbers by all. Its good to see what the national competition is

Again, congratulations to everyone who had the guts to take this on, particularly those who haven't attempted a 10 min set before.

Nathan Lowe texted his results to me:

Jerks (traditional) 2 x 20kg 65reps
Snatch (traditional) 20kg 66reps

Another great result!

What a great turnout! All we are missing is representatives from NT and SA. Oh, wait:
-Stoyan Shopov, SA, age 30, 74kg: LCCJ 2x24 48 reps.
So, all we are missing now is someone from NT.

My hat goes off to all who braved the 10min. set.
Big thanks to the organisers.

Awesome work, Stoyan.

I think Paul has said the next comp will be in November, so all of you who were thinking about competing but chickened out because you thought you weren't ready, start training now!

And for those of you who did give it a shot, start working towards beating your result from this competition - you'll be amazed what you can achieve with just three months of consistent training.

A very solid effort from all! As Emily said , there is no secret to the fact that consistent efforts produce predictably impressive results.
For those who found the going quite easy because they were using a light bell , aim to challenge yourself next time with a bell where precise technique becomes all important. Generally the max legal rep count for snatches is 26-27rpm and C&J 14rpm. Jerks up to 24-26. Otheriwise criteria for legal lockout/fixation cannot be met. If you doing these rates it is time to go heavier! That is what makes it a power endurance , not just another endurance sport.

Who is going to be the first Australian male to double jerk 16kg 200 times in 10 minutes? 2x16 is not heavy , 200 reps is fit...calling all elite athletes...show us what you're made of :D

Well done you guys!
I am envious of your dedicated lifters, hopefully there will be a few more in Denmark this coming season!

Jason Burke (aka Bronson) did a comp set. He's been off training for a week due to having wisdom teeth out, and was still on pain medication, so was a really gutsy effort.

2x24kg Jerks (traditional) 39reps (about 5 mins)
approx 15mins rest
24kg snatch 55L/51R total 106 in 5:45

I have just completed my set. I had to wait till today as Stoyan was unavailable to judge on the weekend and I was OS the weekend before. However I didn't want to miss the first GSAA competition.

Snatch 16 kg - 125 reps (L60/R65) 5 mins each hand
OAJ 16 kg - 84 reps (L42/R42) 5 mins each hand

Both personal bests, but alot of improvement to come.
Age 37; weight 67 kg
