Ill have a crack at this one I reckon, using it as test measure of progress heading towards the November comp.
I think I'll also do the 5 min OH anyhow with the 40 later in the day, if I've had my weetbix !!

The GS rules are pretty simple:
One hand change for single handed exercises
10 min max time for any set
If the bell touches the ground the set ends.
You can only rest overhead in snatches.
You need to have legal lockouts etc.
Was that the sort of stuff you needed to know? There's more in depth stuff like you can't have wrist wraps longer than 10cm. You can find further details here: http://taskettlebellers.tripod.com/girevoysportaustralia/id14.html
thanks emily. yes, that is the sort of thing i was wondering about
i wouldn't know what a "legal lockout" is tho
i'll check out paul's link
i wonder if this sort of information is worth having in a sticky for this sub-forum

Hi Leon
Please come down to Bunbury on the day. We will be holding a comp there with about 5 lifters. In future we could certainly look at bringing a group up to Perth. Its only 1 1/2 hours from Perth, as of tomorrow. Competing with others is a sure fire way to increase your numbers.
Following the competition i would be happy to spend time with you going over technical aspects of the lifts, as required and we can also discuss training in general.

Hi guys and girls!
I want to wish you all luck and strength for the x-world this weekend, hope you make a great day out of it!
For the first time it looks like we might have over 15 people lifting in Denmark, which brings me satisfaction!
I don't think anyone will do GS lifts, and that's fine. They just have to get a feel for it, and then who knows?

Good work Aalborg! 15 is a splendid number. Agree that it is more important to just get people together and lift kettlebells. Hopefully, some of these will then want to try out the GS-lifts, but that's no hurry.
If one "persuades" people to do GS-lifts, it just becomes too complex too soon.
There will be no meet in Sweden this time. I hope to gather a meet in the spring instead. Depending on a cold, I might do lccj with 2x20kgs tomorrow as a virtual contribution.

Ps! Btw, hi! I'm a Swedish kb-lifter, a mediocre GS-amateur:D, who used to visit this forum in the past. Then, I recently returned and noticed it had grown. Nice!

Just keep calling people pussies until they compete ;)
Great that you've got 15 attending! There will be several throughout Australia, so hopefully you'll get a few emails with results.
Our results at South West Kettlebell Sports Club
Simon Green
age
weight 80kg
Traditional snatch @ 16kg = 176 reps PB - exceeding previous effort by 20+ reps
OALCC&J @ 16kg = 92 reps PB
Simon has been lifting KBs for about 3 months, with some minor work on technique he will be breaking 200 reps for the snatch very soon. At probably 6' 3", with some long levers and recovering from/managing a back injury Simons performances are excellent. He has real grit and with belief in his athletic ability he will go a long way with GS and his true love (sorry Bree) BJJ/MMA
Austin Ietto
Age 41
weight 78.6kg
Traditional snatch @ 16kg = 124 reps, 8 minutes
OALCC&J @ 16kg = 107 reps (one hand change)
Austin has been training for around 4 years now. He has been wooed by the crappy sport of long distant running for the past 12 months and has only recently made a concerted effort to return to GS. Grip endurance is his main problem at this stage, as with Simon though he has real grit and with further regular training his numbers will return and exceed previous levels
Jamie Douse
Age 39
Weight 72.1kg
Traditional snatch @ 16kg = 133 reps, 8 minutes (92R/41L) new worst ever performance
OAJ @ 20kg = 153 reps (change on the minute)
Disappointing result for this dickhead...booooo
Bree Garwood-Green
Age
Weight 85
Traditional OALCC&J @ 8kg = 113 reps PB
Traditional snatch @ 8kg = 113 reps, PB
This was Brees first comp, she approached it with some trepidation and had to be coaxed into completing the snatch. She did an awesome job, lasting the full 10 minutes in both lifts with just the one hand change. Bree has been training with Kbs for around 3 months, along the way illness (and some cold mornings) has hindered her ability to always train. She works hard at training (sometimes to the point of asthma attacks) and todays result was just reward for hard work and almost 100% commitment :)
Im very proud of the achievements of todays competitors, well done

Hey Emily,
Just wanted to say thanks for posting details re "Cross World Comp" - had a couple of clients that were keen to give it a go. They have only been doing kettlebells for a few months.
They both did an awesome job and achieved the full 10min with 1 hand change: Antony completed the snatch with 16kg and Leanne completed the snatch and long cycle clean & jerk. I was so proud of them both. They're keen to come along in November too which is great.
Thanks again.

Preparing for competition is actually harder than the big day , IMO!
Committing to the task is what impresses me most. What you learn on comp day guides the next preparation period , and new approaches are what make life interesting.
At least with KB sport there are no excuses for bad weather.
Sorry to let the side down with no show this time , but something else is running my schedule right now!
Good on everyone for putting themselves to the sword. Don't forget the GSAA comp in November , last chance to get ripped for summer!
Well, after a day of hunching over the books and the computer at 12:30 am I just gave the 'freestyle snatch test' a shot.
I've never really performed more than 20 snatches in a row. Until tonight. Wow are my forearms feeling it! Lungs and legs felt fine, in fact everything felt fine except for my grip/forearms. Glad I didn't put it down though.

Glad I tried it...now to 'man up' and use the 24!

age: 38
weight: 87kg
GS: LCCJ 16kgx2: 95 reps (10min)
I wasn't going to do this, but my shoulder started to really come good last week- I can press for the first time in 4 months. I just tried to keep a nice pace, about 8-10 rpm, and was really focussed on 'no hang resting.' Which to my surprise wasn't so bad- my first no hang rest 10 min set. Pretty happy with 95, not to far off my best given my injury.

Well done WA! You guys are leading in numbers.
As for me:
age: 30 (still)
weight: 73 (still)
event: GS LCCJ traditional 2x24kg
reps: 51
That's 3 reps better than the last comp, but given my recent inconsistent training (I've got good excuses I promise) I am happy. I kept the 1 rep every 12 seconds pace quite comfortably. My Crocs are starting to wear thin though, so I might look into getting some weightlifting shoes.
Cheers to everyone (especially to those who competed).

Any effort is a good effort in my view. Bad days, good days... That's life
Well done, but next time, send you results in! What's the point of a Cross World event without posting results? Only a few of yous did :(
I've put a link to the results on my blog
