Hi there,
Up until a month ago, I'd never even heard of kettlebells. But since then I've done a bit of reading and it sounds like they could be the kind of exercise program I could enjoy.
Now my problem is that I have a few injuries/niggles and am just wondering whether it would be okay for me before I go ahead and start buying equipment.
I have had a frozen shoulder for approx. 18mths and a small rotator cuff tear as well. I also suffer from a bit of back and hip pain (mainly when sleeping).
I must admit, although I am a fairly active person, I don't really do any exercise as such.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

G'day mousie, welcome!

Kb's are great and with the right program they are a fantastic tool, on the other hand if you grab a 32kg bell and try to throw that around you'll totally wreck yourself!

So some tuition is in order (especially with the injuries you have.) Get yourself to 'Iron edge' or some other KB (using) centre / gym / learned KB user and learn the correct way to use them (both technique and balanced program)- it will save you years of trial and error. Where are you based- It would probably be easy to link you with something near by?

Also don't be afraid to start with really light kb's (12,16 kg- maybe even 8's) so you can do high reps 15-20+ reps without to much technical struggle- yeah I know you probably want to use KB's for the strength benefits, but it will be better in the long run to get your technique right before you start hammering away on the big boys. Read any KB forum and there are heaps of guys that have injured themselves by going to big to early.

This is really important if as you wrote that you don't really exercise- so you'd need to start light and safe- so to keep injury free and motivated. Just using the bells 3 times a week for 30-45mins with the odd walk, run, cycle, skip, skateboard- you get my drift- will get you in good health.
