Martial Arts

Kettlebells are almost an unfair advantage!

Kettlebells will condition your body so that it’s ready for any form of combat. To quote Pavel Tsatsouline you'll have ‘the work capacity of an android and the pain tolerance of an immortal’.

Increased Striking Power through the core

As any smart martial artist knows, the power of most valid techniques comes from the body’s core (hips and torso). The inherent nature of many Kettlebell drills targets these key areas of strength and power. This transmits into lethal strikes delivered with brutal force at breakneck speed.

The Kettlebell’s unique offset centre of mass makes it the ultimate ‘free’ weight. Your body’s core musculature is constantly being challenged just to control the Kettlebell and maintain static and/or dynamic posture. Skill, timing and coordination are required- all key attributes of a top martial artist.

Effortlessly absorb shock

During many Kettlebell drills the weight will rotate around your hand and impact your forearm. This teaches the body to absorb shock, resulting in a more resilient body capable of brushing off body shots with ease. There are other exercises like hot potato and open palm clean, not to mention, heavy pressing, double cleans and others that teach shock absorption throughout the whole body, stance and torso.

Resilient muscles & joints

The high-speed ballistic movements featured in many Kettlebell drills are extremely effective at developing muscle force. These extreme loads that your muscles are exposed to help develop cable- like strength without unnecessary bulk.

When the muscles are exposed to these high forces, the connective tissues surrounding your joints are also strengthened- resulting in improved transmission of force up the chain with minimal energy wasted.

Grip strength

The unusually thick Kettlebell handle makes every Kettlebell exercise an extreme grip workout. One of the Kettlebell’s unique features is that it can be used bottom up. An exercise involving cleaning and pressing the Kettlebell bottom up is your ticket to a crushing grip that will be feared and avoided!

Never-quit Stamina

Increasing endurance levels is vital to all martial artists. Often a fight will be decided not by the strongest at the beginning of the fight but by the one who is strongest once fatigue sets in.

High rep Kettlebell drills are second to none in developing strength and endurance. Exercises like the clean & jerk, snatches and swings are full body exercises making them far superior to high-rep isolation movements often seen in commercial gyms.

Flexibility

It is hard to find exercises that are better at developing strength and flexibility simultaneously. Gone are the days of feeling muscle bound from weight training- your shoulders and hips will feel springy and loose, and have the strength to match at extreme ranges of motion.

Increase your speed

Develop your explosive fast twitch fibres through rapid acceleration of the Kettlebell. Take the brick from under your brake pedal and pound your opponents to pulp with explosive strikes!

TESTIMONIALS

Kostya Tszyu ...

“I started using the Kettlebell a long, long time ago back in Russia: we have used them for many generations. They are an important tool in my training regime. Just to lift them up off the ground there is a lot of physical competition for you. I have found a variety of different exercises that I can use for strength and for speed. No matter if you’re a champion athlete or just want to keep fit, after a workout with the Kettlebell your entire body is strengthened and you feel ready to conquer the world.”

UFC Legend Frank Shamrock ...

Here is what Shamrock said in his interview to www.mmaweekly.com the day before he KOed Cesar Gracie in 21sec:

"I did kettlebell training for this one, which I don't know if you ever did kettlebell training, but man, that is some serious work… It is all these funky, crazy body movements that you do while balancing and controlling this ball. It is very core oriented. It is very balance specific. I can tell you, after about three weeks the density of my muscles had honestly increased by about 50%. I gained five pounds of muscle, which for me, I haven't gained weight for eight years. I've immediately tacked on muscle. I've never felt stronger. That was wild."

KICKBOXING CHamp talks.... Aaron Ellis,

“I use Kettlebells because nothing else compares to the results they deliver. I have increased Power, Strength and Flexibility. I forgot to mention the extreme increase in Endurance as well! For the sport of Kickboxing you need to be tough as well- Kettlebells toughen you mental and physically. All my students are now using them and can't believe the gains.”
