Uesaka was founded as a company in 1929, and to this day remains a family owned and operated enterprise. Three generations of the Uesaka family work as craftsmen, designers and machinists. Each individual bar is hand tooled from start to finish. The level of precision and quality of these bars is legendary. No other company has such a distinguished history or pedigree.
Indeed, in many Olympic Weightlifting gyms, other very well-credentialed bars are used for training, whereas the Uesaka bars (for those places that have them) are kept under lock and key for specific competitions, or special occasions.
No other bar has had more experience at the Olympic Games than Uesaka. Many world records have been set and reset with this instrument of strength and power.
So, what is so special about them? Ask anybody who has lifted on one. Those that understand and ‘get it’ place Uesaka above everything else.
Precision tooled Japanese steel is where it begins. Japan is renowned for producing some of the best steels in the world, especially when it comes to ‘boutique’ or custom grade steel. Follow that through with a hand tooled knurling and you begin to get the picture about how much attention to painstaking detail is put into each bar.
As the sword is considered an extension of the Samurai’s body, so too the Uesaka bar be considered an extension of the weightlifter. More than simply a tool, this bar is operated with skilled technique, to maximise result from effort invested.
That brings up an important point: Specification. Uesaka bars are equipped with one needle bearing and one bushing per sleeve. That’s right, one of each per side. In no way, shape or form is this to be considered a ‘downgrade’ or a ‘step below’ bars with multiple bearings. Refer back to the phrases ‘painstaking attention to detail’ and ‘operated with skilled technique’: For the vast majority of people, by the time you lift on a Uesaka bar, you will have your technique down pat, and will appreciate the subtle nuances that the Uesaka can offer.
Lack of excessive rotation is one – the bars spins precisely as much as it needs to. Too much rotation with overhead lifts is not a good thing, particularly when setting PB’s or World and Olympic records. That and consistency. Uesaka bars are certified to the gram.
