This DVD series is to provide the individual kettlebell trainee, Strength Coach or Personal Trainer with the basic instructional information necessary for learning or coaching proper form with kettlebells.

Enhanced safety and performance go hand in hand in this DVD.Kettlebell Basics Volume 1 and Volume 2 provide great depth in showing proper form, common mistakes, how to fix them and variations on the basic drills. Volume 1 covers the kettlebell ballistics or quick lifts and Volume 2 covers the grinding kettlebell lifts.

Kettlebell Basics Volume 1: Ballistics 


    Introduction:
  • The what, why and benefits of the kettlebell
  • Safety guidelines
  • Breathing - bracing and intra-abdominal pressure
    The Swing:
  • Proper form and positioning - the Two arm and One arm swing
  • Common mistakes: Squatting and not hinging (Box squat)
  • Not finishing the hips (hip flexor bridge and body hardening)
  • Shoulder disconnect (connection drill), Coming up on the toes (rooting and the static stomp), Focus of the eyes (not looking down)
  • Variations: Alternating or DARC swing and the Crescent swing
    Cleans:
  • Proper form and positioning - the One KB and Two KB clean
  • Common mistakes: Flipping the KB (roll it to the top), Arm disconnect (connection drill), Forgetting the hips (swings), Negative curl (controlled drop)
  • Variations: Dead clean and Hang clean
    Jerk:
  • Proper form and positioning - One KB jerk, Split jerk and Two KB jerk
  • Common mistakes: Improper first dip (load the hips), Pressout/no second dip (manual correction—¯get under the KB and stomping), Full lockout (isometric hold)
    Snatch:
  • Proper form and positioning - One KB and Two KB
  • Common mistakes: Forgetting the hips (swings), Banging the wrist (pull and punch), Full lockout (iso hold), Casting from the top (break the elbow)
  • Variations: Dead snatch and Hang snatch


Kettlebell Basics Volume 2: Grinds 

Introduction:
  • Safety guidelines
  • Breathing - bracing and intra-abdominal pressure
      Windmill:
    • Proper form and positioning - demo Low Windmill and High Windmill
    • Common mistakes - Foot positioning (45degree angel w/ feet), Sidebending not hinging at the hip (visualize lifting the hip)
    • Proper spotting
    • Variations - 2 KB Windmill
      Turkish Get-up (TGU):
    • Proper positioning and form - demo Lunge and Squat style
    • Common mistakes - Proper form picking up the KB (broken arm position), Proper spotting, Elbow locked (power source at the elbow), Rushing through the TGU (freeze frames), Position of the assisting arm (45degrees), Eyes locked on the KB
      Military Press:
    • Proper positioning and form - 1 KB and 2 KB
    • Common mistakes - Leaning back (seated MP), Improper tension (can't shoot a canon from a canoe), Proper lockout (iso hold at top), Proper wrist position
    • Variations - Alternating press and See Saw Press
      Front Squat:
    • Proper positioning and form - 1 KB and 2 KB
    • Common mistakes - Leaning forward, Opening the hips, Pulling yourself into the hole (hip flexor activation)
    • Variations - Front squat +Push Press, Clean+Front Squat+Push Press
      Single Leg DL:
    • Proper positioning and form, 2 hands - 1 KB, 2KB
    • Common mistakes - Loss of balance (static stomp and grab the ground with the toes)
    • Variations - Suitcase style and Contralateral style
      Bear Crawl:
    • Proper positioning and form
    • Common mistakes - Shoulder/hand position, Proper stabilization with the supporting arm, How to bail out of the bear crawl

    Brett Jones holds a Bachelor's degree in Sport Medicine and a Masters in Rehabilitative Science and is a Senior Instructor in the Russian Kettlebell Challenge program. Also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, Brett uses a combination of techniques to maximize the performance of his clients.

    Michael Castrogiovanni holds a degree in Kinesiology emphasizing fitness, nutrition, and health. He is also a Russian Kettlebell instructor and CSCS. He has been involved in the industry for over ten years and prides himself on his unique style of training.
